North Waziristan Elders Try to Prevent Military Operation

Elders in North Waziristan say they are in contact with government and security officials, holding meetings and visiting villages to talk to people in an effort to stop any possible military operation.

Spokesperson of the Utmanzai Jirga, Mufti Baitullah, told Mashaal Radio on July 3 that after last month’s suicide attack on soldiers in Mir Ali’s Khadi Market, authorities asked the elders to clarify whether they stand with the government or support the militants.

According to the Pakistan military, the June 28 attack killed 13 soldiers and injured 10 others. Fourteen civilians were also wounded.

ANP Leader Aimal Wali Khan Criticizes Pakistan’s “War-Based” Policies

Senator Aimal Wali Khan, leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), says that peace in Pakistan is not possible as long as the state continues to benefit from war. He made these remarks during an interview with Mashaal Radio on July 3.

Khan stated that both peace talks (jirgas) and military operations have been tried in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal areas, but both have failed. He believes the reason is that Pakistan’s economy relies on conflict.

However, he said he supports targeted military actions against militants—but only if civilians are 100% safe during such operations.

North Waziristan Residents Refuse to Leave Homes if Military Operation Begins

Residents of the  North Waziristan have jointly decided that they will not leave their homes if the Pakistani military launches a new operation in the area.

On July 4, after a jirga in Mir Ali, Mufti Baitullah, spokesperson of the Utmanzai jirga, told Mashaal Radio that tribal elders have been informed the army is currently in talks with government officials in Islamabad and Peshawar.

He said that while no official order has been given yet to evacuate, the people of Waziristan have agreed they will not leave again. “We were displaced before, but this time we’ve made a joint decision—no matter what happens, we will stay in our homes, even if we face death or destruction,” he said.

Protest in Chaman Against Forced Deportation of Afghan Refugees

In Chaman district of Southern Pashtunkhwa, local residents held a protest condemning Pakistan’s forced deportation of Afghan refugees.

Protesters said that both sides of the Durand Line are Afghan land, and separating families or requiring passports to cross is unacceptable.
They also opposed the fencing of the Durand Line and called for an end to dividing villages, graveyards, and communities, as well as stopping what they described as the human and economic destruction of Pashtuns.

North Waziristan Protest against Military Operations in the Area

People in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, protested against a planned military operation. They said they won’t leave their homes and rejected what they called a “war for dollars.”

Despite roadblocks by the army, thousands joined the protest in the main market.

Tirah Residents Demand Peace: Call for Militants and Military to Leave Their Villages

Political activists and tribal elders in Khyber have asked both militants and security forces to leave their area and let locals live in peace.

This demand came during a large public gathering on July 5 in Tirah Maidan, where thousands joined. Speakers said locals are tired of conflict and trapped between militants and the army.

Activist Khan Wali Afridi said, “We reject forced military operations, drone and mortar attacks, and the killing of innocent civilians. We also reject the Taliban’s presence and their fatwas. We are true Muslims; we know our religion—no one needs to teach us.”

The gathering happened after the government ordered some villages to evacuate, saying military operations would begin there.

Clashes between militants and forces have recently increased in Tirah. Locals report civilian deaths and property losses.

After protests in Mir Ali and Tirah, people in Spin Wam, Waziristan, also gathered to oppose army operations and war.

Leaders in their speeches said, locals have rejected military actions and all kinds of oppression. They warned that more strong protests will soon rise against injustice, as Pashtuns unite to resist.

TTP Operates from Inside Pakistan

Pakistan’s UN representative, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, told the UN General Assembly on July 7 that terrorist groups like TTP, BLA, and the Majeed Brigade are planning attacks in Pakistan from Afghan territory, targeting infrastructure and officials. He called for serious talks with Kabul to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a terrorism hub.

The Taliban denied these claims, saying they don’t support any militant group or allow Afghan soil to be used for attacks. TTP has also said it operates from inside Pakistan and doesn’t need hideouts in Afghanistan. Tensions remain high after recent deadly attacks in North Waziristan, Bajaur, and Balochistan.

The Taliban and Pakistan have agreed that Afghan truck drivers need a visa and passport to cross into Pakistan through Torkham. But Pakistani drivers can enter Afghanistan without these documents.

Protest in North Waziristan Against Possible Military Operation

On July 7, hundreds gathered in Spinwam, North Waziristan, to protest against a possible army operation.

Malik Nisar Ali Khan, a local leader and ANP member, said the community has started holding meetings across the district. He clarified that while locals don’t oppose action against militants, they refuse to leave their homes again, as they did during past operations.

He added that the government has enough resources to act against militants without disturbing civilians.

The protest follows last month’s suicide attack in Mir Ali, which killed 13 soldiers and injured 10 others. After the attack, officials asked local elders to clarify their stance—whether they support the state or militants.

In response, authorities imposed Section 144, enforcing a nighttime curfew and warning of strict action for violations.

Protest in Central Kurram After Shelling Kills Civilians

On July 9, residents of Central Kurram protested after a mortar hit a house in Out village, killing two people, including a girl, and injuring three. Locals blamed the army. A police official said the shell may have missed its target and hit the house by mistake. An investigation is underway.

Earlier, on the night of July 8, gunmen killed three people in a nearby village. No group has claimed responsibility.

Protesters placed the bodies near a military camp, demanding justice. Locals say such attacks are increasing.

Protest in Kohat Over Killing of FC Soldiers

Residents of Kohat held a protest on July 9, 2025, against the abduction and killing of two FC (Frontier Corps) soldiers from their area. Locals say that on July 4, armed men kidnapped three FC personnel in Lakki Marwat—two of them were from Kohat. A video allegedly showing their killing was shared online.

Mashaal Radio could not verify the video, but the brother of one of the soldiers confirmed the death during a press briefing after the protest. He requested help from authorities in recovering the body.

Security officials say they have launched operations against those responsible and have killed one of the attackers’ leaders. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killings.

ANP Leader Maulana Khanzeb Killed in Bajaur Attack 

Maulana Khanzeb, a senior member of the central cabinet of Awami National Party (ANP), was shot dead in Khar, Bajaur on July 10, 2025. Police said gunmen attacked his vehicle at Shandai Mor. Three others in the car were injured, and another passenger later died at the hospital.

Khanzeb was campaigning for a peace march at the time of the attack, according to the Khurasan Diary, an independent group monitoring terrorism in the region. No group has claimed responsibility.

He was known for his peaceful struggle against violence and human rights violations in Bajaur and was also a candidate in the 2024 general elections.

His funeral will be held on July 11 in Nawagi, his hometown. ANP has strongly condemned the killing and announced three days of mourning, suspending all party activities during this period.

Protesters placed Maulana Khanzeb’s body outside a military base and accused the Pakistani army of his murder.
They said Pakistan has always been an enemy of the Pashtun people.

 South Waziristan Jirga for Peace

The Dre-Maseed jirga in South Waziristan has warned that if the army launches operations in the area, people will hold sit-ins on the roads.

On July 10, a large jirga was held in Makeen, and the next day, July 11, a protest gathering called “Peace Uprising” took place in Wana.

The jirga said: “We reject military operations. It’s the government’s duty to ensure peace. The army must not target civilian areas with drones and mortars. If it does, the public will protest.”

Protest for Peace in Bara, Khyber District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Thousands of people gathered in Bara, Khyber district on Friday to protest against Pakistan’s military actions, which they called a “dollar war.” They raised strong slogans demanding peace and an end to violence in their region.

Local activist Atif Rashid Orakzai said that the voices of the people asking for peace and speaking out against terrorism have always been ignored by the mainstream media and authorities. He added that it is clear the state does not treat peace in Pashtunkhwa as a real priority.

Khyber Peace Jirga

Thousands of people protested in Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, against military operations and growing violence in their area.

The protesters said the violence in Pashtun regions is not real terrorism but a “dollar war” created by the Pakistani army to gain money and control Pashtuns.

They also strongly condemned the killing of Maulana Khanzeb, saying he was targeted because he spoke out against this war.

Wana, South Waziristan Protest for Peace

On 17 July 2025, in Wana, South Waziristan, a large number of local residents came out to protest against the Pakistani state’s decision to launch new military operations in their area. The people strongly opposed the plan and said they are tired of war, violence, and the destruction these operations bring. They demanded peace and urged the government to stop treating their region like a battlefield.

A strong public protest erupted today in Mohmand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where hundreds of locals took to the streets demanding security, basic rights, and an end to state neglect.

Protesters said the region has long suffered from insecurity, injustice, and economic deprivation. Instead of solutions, government institutions have only worsened their hardships.

“There is no peace, no education, no healthcare, and no justice,” said demonstrators. They also condemned forced displacement, exploitative labor, and unaccountable operations in the area.
