A woman was killed and six other members of the same family were injured in a suspected drone strike in the Pastawana area of the Hassan Khel subdivision on the outskirts of Peshawar late Tuesday night. They said one of the injured, a woman, had sustained critical injuries and was initially reported to be in critical condition. Local residents later said that two of the injured, identified as Sher Mast and his 15-year-old son, remained under treatment at Lady Reading Hospital, while the remaining injured family members were discharged early Wednesday July 01, 2026.
An elder from Hassan Khel confirmed to Dawn that Sher Mastās daughter-in-law had succumbed to her injuries, bringing the death toll from the suspected drone strike to one.
2. Four Killed, 36 Injured in Monsoon Rain-Related Incidents across Pakhtunkhwa
The first spell of monsoon rains hit several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday July 01, 2026, leaving four people dead and 36 others injured in different rain-related incidents. The casualties were reported in Upper Dir, Khyber, Shangla, Mardan, and Bajaur districts. In Upper Dir, at least 21 female students were injured in a stampede after lightning struck near their Madrassah during heavy rainfall. According to police, around 250 students were present at the Madrassah when the lightning caused panic, leading to the stampede. Rescue teams shifted the injured students to Wari Hospital, where doctors confirmed that all of them were out of danger.
Separate rain-related incidents and road accidents in Upper Dir also claimed the life of a child and injured several other people.

Three girls were killed and four other members of the same family were injured in a suspected quadcopter attack in the Nargasi area of Birmal tehsil, Lower South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, early on Sunday, according to local sources. The locals said the suspected quadcopter drone dropped munitions on a residential house. The deceased were identified as three girls between the ages of 6 to 15 years. The injured included a woman and three young boys, who sustained injuries of varying severity.
Local residents rushed to the scene immediately after the attack and initiated rescue efforts before shifting the injured to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana for medical treatment.

At least five people were injured after unidentified armed men attacked the residence of Awami National Party (ANP) Swat district vice-president Malik Mumtaz Khan in the Shakardara area of Swat on Sunday July 06, 2026. According to officials at Matta Police Station, the assailants also opened fire on an ambulance transporting the injured to hospital, leaving a rescue worker among those wounded. Police said an investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. The motive behind the assault remains unknown.
The family of Malik Mumtaz Khan has previously suffered significant losses due to militant violence, making the latest attack particularly concerning.

- 42 Killed in Terror Attacks and Security Operations in Balochistan since July 5
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said on Wednesday that since July 5, terrorist attacks and the security operations that followed in Balochistan have killed four civilians, 27 police personnel, and 11 members of the security forces.
He added that security forces also killed 54 terrorists during the same period while carrying out operations against militant groups in the province.
2. PHC Orders Government to Decide Afghan Asylum Cases Within 60 Days
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has directed the federal government to decide the cases of around 140 Afghan families and individuals seeking asylum or temporary stay in Pakistan within 60 days. The court said the government should consider their cases under the principle of non-refoulement, which means a person should not be sent back to a country where they may face persecution or serious harm.
The court also ordered that these Afghan families and individuals should not be deported until the government makes a final decision on their applications. The order was issued by a bench comprising Justice Wiqar Ahmad and Justice Inamullah Khan while disposing of around 140 petitions filed by Afghans who fear persecution if returned to Afghanistan.

3. Brother of ANP Leader Shot Dead in Bajaur
The brother of a local leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bajaur. According to ANP MPA Mohammad Nisar Baz Khan, the victim, Abdur Raziq, was the brother of local ANP leader Dr Tariq. He was attacked and killed in front of his shop in Lowi Sam Bazaar by unknown assailants, who fled the scene after the shooting. Police have started an investigation into the incident.

- Four Terrorists Killed in Joint Operation near KarakāKohat Border
Four terrorists were killed in a joint intelligence-based operation carried out by the police in the Khattak Dam near the adjacence of Karak and Kohat districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the Karak police, they received credible intelligence at around 5:00am about the presence of terrorists in the area. Acting on the information, Karak and Kohat police launched a joint operation, during which four terrorists were killed.
