Protest Staged Against Target killing of Musawer Dawar – Member of ANP in North Waziristan

On 22nd of March 2022 a nationalist political worker and member of Awami National Party (ANP), Musawer Dawar has been killed in a targeted killing by “unknown” in Mirali, North Waziristan.

As soon as the news spread on social media along with his photos, a huge protest and condemnation appeared on social media by posting his pictures, video. The social media posts were questioning huge military deployment in the area – that how it could be possible for militants to kill a political worker in the area which has already been declared a “clean” from militants by security forces couple of years ago. One of the frequently ask questions was about the regrouping of militants’ organizations in area.

According to the South Asian Terrorism Portal, at least 69 people have been killed in 37 attacks in South and North Waziristan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Musawer Dawar was one the victim of these killings. According to the local Police he was targeted by unknown motorcycle riders in the Mir Ali Bazzar.

Musawer Dawar was a nominated candidate of Awani National Party (ANP) for the upcoming local government elections on General Counselor seat, from his village Haider Khel. He was member of ANP and a social activist. Musawer Dawar was former member of Pashtun Students Federation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was known for his work for peace democratization in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in general and North Waziristan in particular.

Beside the protests and condemnation on social media from various social and political workers, Awami National Party arranged protests in almost all of the districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwan, including North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Tank, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Kohat, Peshawar, Buner, Charsadda, Swabi, Khyber, Noshehra, Mardan, Bajaur, Mansehra etc. The protests were held peacefully in front of press clubs of districts.

The protesters demanded fair inquiring of the killing and asked the state and security forces to counter targeted killing in the region. According to the protesters, protection of life of citizens is the sole responsibility of State and its institutions, which has unfortunately not been fulfilled. The protesters asked the security forces that these kinds of target killings are no more acceptable.
