Armed Men Shoot Police Officer in Bannu
In Bannu, armed attackers shot a police officer, Shah Riaz Khan, on the road between Bannu and Miramshah in the Kant police limits while he was heading to work. The assailants fled the scene, and police have registered a case against unknown gunmen. This follows previous attacks in Bannu, including the killing of a retired army officer and another police officer earlier in August.

Militants Attack Police in Kohat

Pakistan Continues Deportation of Afghan Refugees
On 1 September, Pakistan resumed deporting Afghan refugees holding PoR cards after the deadline for their stay expired on 31 August. Refugees from various parts of Pakistan first reach temporary camps in Loralai or Landi Kotal in Khyber District for registration and inspection before being sent to Afghanistan via Torkham. Many report long traffic jams, extreme heat, and lack of food, water, and shelter facilities while waiting. Authorities and UNHCR say over 1.3 million Afghans hold PoR cards in Pakistan, but Pakistan notes their validity ended in June, and large-scale repatriation continues despite humanitarian concerns.

Major Assault on Bannu Constabulary Headquarters
